This proposed work deals with the relationship betweenhumans and beluga whales and evokes media fabrication. Captionstaken from newspaper headlines are superimposed on photographic archivesof varying degrees of accuracy in order to highlightsituations in which the animal is found dead, observed, or even diverted from itsusual trajectory or habitat.

IN THE EYE OF THE BELUGA

For the youth exhibition In the Eye of the Beluga, Maryse Goudreau revisits her Beluga Archives through the eyes of a child to create immersive works where birth and extinction coexist. Drawing on her childhood love for the animal, she stages installations that appeal to the senses of hearing, touch, and play. By immersing us in the world of this marine mammal to raise awareness of the impacts of its imminent disappearance, she encourages us to change our perspective and see the world through the eyes of a beluga.
